Deutsche Schule Toulouse, Kaugummiprojekt

Bubbles for the win!

Indeed, bubbles and celebrations go hand in hand. However, an alcoholic beverage was not part of the winning design that our 6th graders Paul, Matthias, and Bruno submitted to the German science competition “Jugend forscht.”

The three students had set themselves the task of making chewing gum with which they could make the biggest possible bubbles for the regional stage of the nationwide competition “Jugend forscht.” To find out which ingredients positively influence the elasticity of chewing gum, they mixed the natural chewing mass “chicle” with various other elements. They made different chewing gum recipes, which were all tried out afterward.

The result was chewing gum bubbles 17.5cm in diameter and lots of fun experimenting.

With their project idea, they could win the special prize in the chemistry category for the DST. Congratulations!
