Soaring to New Heights: Students Build and Fly Drones in a Day
Building drones that also fly within a day – is that even possible? Students from our primary school and year 6 were able to find out exactly how. This was made possible by two former DST students, Noémie and Damien, who are experts in the field of drone flight and technology themselves with their organisation ‘Easycap’.
The morning began with an introduction to the basics of drone flying. Under guidance, the children learnt how to safely control a drone in small research teams. But that wasn’t all – they were also allowed to get hands-on and learnt how to build and repair drones. Everyone was impressed when the first drones they had assembled themselves took to the air.
In the afternoon, the challenges focussed on teamwork and communication. In various drone-related tasks, the students had to work together to master the challenges and safely control the drones in virtual worlds. Each team developed creative solutions and demonstrated skill and ingenuity.
