An Interesting Lecture about Finance and Globalisation
In English class, Morag Torrance, coauthor of “Atlas of Finance: Mapping the Global Story of Money”, gave students in Grades 11 and 12 the opportunity to explore the world of finance. She demonstrated that money is not just a means of payment but a powerful force that influences many of the changes shaping our world.
Through examples and illustrations, the class was shown the influence of money in today’s society.
The topic of “migrating money,” where she explained how money flows between countries and affects people’s everyday lives, particularly piqued the class’s interest.

The lecture showed how closely our lives intertwine with otherwise abstract concepts.
In the end, there was plenty of room for questions: How does cryptocurrency work? Will there still be paper money in the future? And how might financial power shift globally?
A big thanks to Morag Torrance for her informative, thought-provoking, and eye-opening lecture about the world of finance.
